About St Francis' College

Academic results are consistently excellent and the school is one of the top girl’s schools in the UK. St. Francis’ girls successfully progress onto the UK’s top universities, including Cambridge and Oxford. Small class sizes, individual attention and a supportive, caring environment help ensure that each and every girl enjoys their education and reaches their full potential, academically, socially and in a wide range of extra-curricular pursuits.

“….across all subjects pupils are articulate, work enthusiastically and achieve high standards” Independent Schools Inspectorate 2011

St. Francis’ College is small enough for each girl to receive the personal attention they deserve, while at the same time, we are large enough to accommodate a wide variety of interests and cultures.

The school offers a diverse range of sporting opportunities for all girls to experience.  From the main sports of hockey, netball, tennis and rounders to gymnastics, dance, swimming, football, athletics, badminton, self-defence, trampolining, aerobics and the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme, we aim to guide our girls towards a healthy lifestyle and introduce them to lifelong sporting opportunities.

Pupils have the use of an onsite well-equipped gymnasium, indoor swimming pool, dance studio, netball and tennis courts as well as playing fields for rounders, football and athletics.  There is also access to astro-turf pitches for hockey training and matches.

The school also boasts an exciting and inclusive music department with a multitude of opportunities for all girls to experience.  From orchestras and choirs through to bands and chamber ensembles girls of all ages enjoy making music.  The art department has a well-deserved reputation across a wide range of artistic opportunities from painting and drawing, sculpture and photography to mixed media within the fine art framework.  St. Francis’ College is also immensely proud of its 300 seat theatre and the range of drama opportunities available.  The school hosts regular productions, which are always well supported and directed to a high standard.

Accommodation

St. Francis’ College boarding has a strong family atmosphere with around 70 full boarders supported by experienced boarding staff, including academic tutors. Ensuring high-quality provision for these girls is very important and Ofsted in their recent inspection report agreed that ‘boarders gain in confidence in an environment where they are valued and where caring attitudes are encouraged’.

Location

St. Francis’ College is located in the leafy environment of Letchworth Garden City – the world’s first Garden City. The school is located close to the centre of this community focused town, providing a safe and peaceful environment in which the girls can study. St. Francis’ College is just a five minute walk from the town’s train station.

Letchworth Garden City is conveniently located between London and Cambridge with good road and rail access.  It is ideally situated for access to London Heathrow airport and all main London railway stations.
