Located in the county town of Somerset, King's College occupies a secluded and beautiful site of over 80 acres.
The school's strong boarding ethos is central. The fact that so many pupils and staff live on the site creates a strong sense of community, while the other great benefit is the extra time boarding offers: time for relaxation, friendship, practising the many activities available – music, sport, Combined Cadet Force, Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme and performing arts.
The school is small enough to be friendly and yet large enough to compete nationally. A good work ethic and small class sizes help sustain progress, and specialist teaching is the norm, with great emphasis placed on developing the individual: kindness, consideration, courtesy and respect for one another. The outstanding modern facilities and stunning location ensure that children enjoy a challenging all-round education in a progressive, secure and stimulating environment.
Pupils work hard at King’s. We follow a traditional curriculum, strong on rigour and the difficult academic subjects, taught by teachers chosen for their deep knowledge of the subject and their infectious enthusiasm. They instil a natural love of learning and, as a result, 98% of pupils go on to university, many to Oxford and Cambridge and other international universities, and we have consistently high standards of academic achievement.
The quality of our facilities is another reason for the school’s success. The last few years have seen the completion of new boarding houses and a beautiful new library, IT suite, and Business Education Faculty, a new art studio, and we are planning major further enhancements including a sports hub and climbing wall.
