About Whitgift School

Whitgift is situated in a beautiful and historic park. A Whitgift education is unique and exceptionally tailor-made, offering a variety of pathways to qualifications, including A Level, Pre U, the IB and BTEC, with a bilingual section for native French speakers. Exceptional pastoral care is at the foundation of our provision, and each pupil, and his parents, are guaranteed a friendly face to turn to for advice and guidance.

Whitgift’s sport is at the forefront of achievement, with over 130 national titles won in the past five years. 40 sports are available, including modern pentathlon, golf, judo and cycling. Many boys represent their country in a wide variety of sports, or go on to pursue a career at the highest level.

An exciting Performing Arts programme is offered by the School, with first-class musicals and plays performed regularly. Orchestras and choirs tour internationally, and play at major venues, including the Royal Albert Hall, Royal Festival Hall, Cadogan Hall, Goodwood House, and the Royal Pavilion, Brighton. The School enjoys close links with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, enabling pupils to learn side-by-side with professional musicians.

Co-curricular activities feature more than 80 clubs, an Outdoor Education programme that travels worldwide, and a well-established Combined Cadet Force.

The School’s Boarding House, opened in 2013, is superbly-equipped and offers full, weekly and flexi-boarding to boys aged 13-18. Boarders have cutting-edge IT equipment, private study areas, en-suite bathrooms, and spacious, communal social areas with kitchen facilities.

Whitgift offers generous scholarships and bursaries.

Fees

The fees for the 2017 - 2018 academic year are £19,362 (day), £30,447 (weekly boarding) and £36,411 (full boarding).  The fees are payable termly in advance, or monthly by direct debit.

The fees include the cost of most stationery and text books, games and school societies, but exclude a small number of items, such as public examination and UCAS entry fees. Individual music tuition is provided at an extra charge. In addition, an entrance fee of £130 is payable on the first term’s account for those who have been accepted for admission. School lunches are compulsory for Lower First and Upper First boys only and are invoiced termly at a fixed price of £4.25 per day.

A deposit of £800 (day students) or £2,500 (UK boarding students) or one term's fees (overseas boarding students) is payable on acceptance of a place at Whitgift. This will be retained in full until the pupil leaves, on completion of his full School Course, when it will be refunded less any balance owing to the School. Once a place has been accepted, if a boy is withdrawn at any point before joining Whitgift, a full term's fees will be due, in addition to the loss of the deposit.

The Entrance Examination fee which accompanies the Application Form is £100 for UK students and £130 for overseas students. If late applications are accepted, an extra £20 will be charged.

The Governors reserve the right to review or alter fees at any time and with a notice period of half a term.

Remission of Fees
Parents who would like their son to come to Whitgift should not be deterred by financial reasons from applying as it is the policy of the Whitgift Foundation to make the education offered as widely available as possible by way of scholarships, bursaries and boarding awards.

Scholarships & Bursaries

Scholarships at Whitgift

A large number of awards carrying substantial remission, up to 50% of fees, will be offered to candidates of outstanding merit, regardless of parental means. This will be principally to recognise academic potential, but scholarships are also awarded to boys showing exceptional talent as all-rounders or in specific areas such as Art, Design Technology and Engineering, Drama, Music and Sport. All candidates are automatically considered for an Academic Scholarship when they sit the Entrance Examination papers.

Whitgift Foundation Bursaries for Day Pupils

Parents of prospective day pupils, whose family income is less than approximately £80,000 a year, may apply for a bursary (an income-related fee reduction).

There is a generous, but limited, annual budget for bursaries, which are awarded on the basis of performance in the Entrance Examinations, assessments and interviews, for those who qualify in terms of their income and residency.

The Whitgift Foundation calculates the bursary award, which may cover almost the entire fee. A proportion of parents may be offered a bursary smaller than the Foundation’s assessment, to enable a larger number of families to benefit from the scheme.  Please visit our website for further information regarding bursaries.
