About The Hawthorns School

As an impressive day school for 2 to 13 year olds, The Hawthorns offers an exceptional breadth and vision for each child.  The production of quality learning and the development of good character with the skills for life are key to the work of the School.

Underpinning an outstanding record of academic achievement at senior schools, The Hawthorns’ academic curriculum is broad and balanced.  Developing the talents of each child is at the heart of our work.  Dedicated teachers create high expectations and work hard with our girls and boys to help them achieve success in a wide variety of areas.  A wonderful programme of sport and extraordinary opportunities in Art, Music, Drama, Textiles and Design & Technology mean that every child has the opportunity to be challenged in a variety of areas and thus develop a confidence for life.

We encourage parents to visit the School to get a real flavour of life at The Hawthorns. Open Mornings are held each term with our senior pupils showing prospective parents their School. Individual visits take place weekly on Monday, Thursday or Friday mornings with tours of the School carried out by our Headmaster, Adrian Floyd.

To arrange a visit or enquire about our next Open Morning please call Debbie Kingerlee, Registrar, on 01883 743048 or email

Admissions Process

No formal assessment is necessary for children entering the Rainbow & Ark Nurseries and Reception, although informal observations will be made during the Taster Session. Children joining during the Reception Year and above will be invited to spend some time at the School in their year group, during the course of which some assessment work is carried out. A report will be requested from their current school where applicable.

Children will be invited to a "Induction Visit" immediately prior to joining. This will give them an opportunity to meet their teacher and classmates and familiarise themselves with the School’s layout. On the first day of term, where appropriate, a "buddy" will be asked to look after a new pupil.
