About Sunningdale School

Sunningdale's academic record stands up against the very best. The boys are given the support, guidance and encouragement necessary for them to achieve their full potential. Although the School is not selective, boys from Sunningdale go on to the best schools in the country including Eton, Harrow, Winchester, Stowe, Radley and Sherborne with many achieving scholarships.

All boys play games every day. As a small school most boys get the opportunity to represent the school at some sport with impressive results. There are also very busy art and music departments who produce wonderful concerts and exhibitions.

Sunningdale is fully committed to boarding life. Boys may weekly board during their first two years but most choose to spend the weekend at school taking part in the huge variety of fun activities on offer.

During their time at School, the boys all visit Sunningdale's manoir in Normandy, about 20 minutes from Bayeux. The boys go out for a week at a time and the aim is to bring the language they learn in the classroom to life. While they are there they take part in a wide range of activities and see history come to life.

Sunningdale is a very happy school where all boys become part of the family and where they all have the chance to shine.

Scholarships & Bursaries

SCHOLARSHIPS:
We offer academic and outstanding talent awards for musical, sporting and artistic ability. These awards are offered on a discretionary basis and the amount awarded will vary. Scholarships will be offered following the assessment day which each boy will attend during the September before they are due to start.

BURSARIES:
Sunningdale does offer some bursaries to families who need help with the fees.  For more information please contact the Headmaster.

Admissions Process

PARENTAL VISITS
To really capture the essence of Sunningdale it is essential to come and visit the school and meet the Headmaster and Deputy Headmaster who will show you around. Please call the admissions department to arrange a visit, explore the grounds, meet the pupils and get a feel for school.

REGISTRATION
A parent may register their son at Sunningdale from birth. We have, on average, 22 places available each year. If all 22 places are taken for the year you require, your son will be placed on a waiting list. You will be kept informed as to the likelihood of him being offered a guaranteed place. We will also keep in touch by sending you our termly newsletter and inviting you to various school events. Please feel free to come and visit the school whenever you like.

YEAR BEFORE ENTRY
During the year before he is due to join the school your son will be required to attend an ‘assessment day’. This is not a ‘selection test’, the purpose of the day is to allow us to place boys in the right form and to enable us to offer scholarships. The day will consist of a series of workshops in Music, Art and Sport, followed by short papers in Mathematics, English and Verbal Reasoning. We will also request a report from your son’s current school. In very rare circumstances we may suggest that Sunningdale is not the right school for your son. We will try and give you as much notice as possible.

ENTRY AT 11+
Owing to the high demand for places in this age group, we have introduced an assessment for boys wishing to join the school. The boys will need to attend an assessment day in January during which they will sit Cognitive Ability Tests. A report will be requested from their previous school. Both academic and extra-curricular strengths will be taken into account when places are offered.

ACCEPTANCE
An acceptance form will be sent out for you to sign and we will ask for a £500 deposit. Once we receive the form and deposit your son's place will be confirmed. The deposit will be deducted from the final bill
