Scholarships & Bursaries
A number of scholarships are available to boys entering at 11+ and 13+.
The value of a major scholarship is one third of the fees and a minor scholarship is one sixth of the fees. Major and minor Music scholarships are also available. Candidates should be established performers on one or more instruments, are likely to have reached Grade 4 or above (or the equivalent), and will have good musical skills.
Sports scholarships are available to boys entering the Sixth Form.
The Coindre Bursary
Coindre Bursaries are given in memory of Father André Coindre, founder of the Brothers of the Sacred Heart.
In September each year, the College accepts applications for the following academic year. St Columba’s College offers a number of these bursaries, up to the value of the full fee, to Roman Catholic boys, who will enter Prep 3 (Year 3) or Form 1 (Year 7) in September 2016.
The closing date for these applications is the end of October.
Please apply in writing to Brother Daniel St Jacques, Dean, St Columba’s College, King Harry Lane, St Albans, Herts AL3 4AW or to Brother Daniel’s email address, firstname.lastname@example.org.
Boys are admitted at 4+, 7+, 11+, 13+ and 16+.
Younger applicants sit age appropriate assessments and those applying to the Senior School sit entrance tests in English, Maths and Reasoning, followed by an informal interview. Background information is also sought from feeder schools. Most candidates are tested and selected in January, but selection can take place at other times by arrangement with the Admissions Officer.
A limited number of students enter at 13+, some deferring places from the 11+ stage, and external enquiries at 16+ are welcomed. In addition, selected ‘occasional entrants’ can be admitted during the school year if a place becomes available.
The management of Admissions lies with Mrs Cathy Lovett, who can be contacted by email at email@example.com or by telephone on 01727 892012.
