South Lee is a co-educational day school, located in Bury St Edmunds, within easy reach of the A14 and close to the beautiful Nowton Country Park. From our superb Nursery through to Year 8, pupils enjoy a quality of education admired by many.
We pride ourselves on the friendly and purposeful atmosphere of the school and the attention we pay to the individual needs and abilities of the children who grow up here. Of course, this is only possible because of the efforts and dedication of the talented and caring people who work at South Lee.
Our pupils benefit from a curriculum which, whilst having a very traditional base, prepares them for the demands of today’s world. English, mathematics and science form the core of a curriculum that is complemented by our study of the Arts, humanities and a range of extra-curricular activities.
Recently, we were again awarded the prestigious ‘Artsmark’ award in recognition of the quality of our programmes in this often-neglected area of education. We believe that a balanced education must surely mean giving children opportunities to develop their talents in vital areas such as art, music and drama.
Sport and physical education are also vital elements of life at South Lee. Pupils regularly go on to represent Suffolk and our teams frequently compete in national finals. In addition to the work we do in school, South Lee has established a reputation for the support it gives to sport in the community in and around Bury St Edmunds.
Our pupils have opportunities to travel locally, nationally and internationally to extend their appreciation and understanding of this country and the world around them. Our links with other schools extend across the globe. This is supported through our modern languages programme, where French is taught throughout the school (including Nursery). Spanish and Latin are introduced in the later stages of the Prep School.
