About Kingswood House School

At Kingswood House, we have long enjoyed an outstanding reputation as a leading preparatory school for boys. Our new senior department opened in September 2016, thereby extending our exceptional academic and pastoral provision through to GCSE. We offer a genuine all-round education, underpinned by exciting curricular and co-curricular opportunities, with a strong emphasis on character development and preparation for life beyond the school gate.

Kingswood House is situated in a leafy suburb of Epsom with excellent transport links. We are ambitious for our boys and challenge each individual to achieve their potential in a conducive environment of small classes and high expectations.
Accredited as “excellent in all areas” in our last ISI inspection, Kingswood House is also endorsed by the Independent Association of Preparatory Schools (IAPS) and the Society of Heads (SoH).
Our values promote tolerance, respect and friendship and we welcome families from all faiths, or none. We offer a well-rounded education and a purposeful, supportive ethos in which each child will grow in independence, resilience and self-esteem. All boys are encouraged to participate in every aspect of school life and this provides a wonderful platform for them to grow in resilience and self-esteem. A rich variety of opportunities, both inside and outside the classroom, engenders an avid natural curiosity and propagates a willingness to try new things.
With the advent of our flourishing Senior Years, parents are able to consider their options carefully, secure in the knowledge that Kingswood House offers an excellent pathway for the boys through to GCSE. We are also developing KHS for the future and have recently built an impressive Lower Prep and Upper Prep Department. The new “Peter Brooks’ building, boasting customised teaching accommodation for our Senior Years, opened in September 2018.

You are warmly invited to explore the benefits of a KHS education online, or better still, in person.

Scholarships & Bursaries

Academic & All-Rounder Scholarships, Year 3, 5, 7 and 9 Scholarships

Kingswood House has a proud record of academic and all-round achievement. We offer academic scholarships for entry into Year 3 as well as academic and all-rounder scholarships into Years 5, 7 and 9.

Academic scholarships entail attendance at an assessment morning where candidates will sit papers in English, mathematics, and, where deemed appropriate, Verbal Reasoning, and have an interview with a senior member of staff. All subjects will be based on the National Curriculum in order to be accessible to boys from both the independent and maintained sectors.

All-Rounder scholarships will be assessed by the submission of a portfolio of evidence in relation to at least one area of excellence from the following disciplines: Sport, Music, Creative Arts, Performing Arts and Citizenship. A short interview and related observation will normally be conducted as a part of the process on an assessment day. Candidates will be expected to satisfy the School’s normal academic entrance criteria.

A reference from the boy’s current school should be provided at the time of submission together with supporting references from outside agencies in respect of All-Rounder applications.

Scholarships carry a financial value as outlined below – which can be supplemented, where there is a genuine need for bursarial assistance, by up to 100% of the termly fees.

Academic or All-Rounder Scholarship          15 – 30%

Academic or All-Rounder Exhibition             5 – 15%

Headmaster’s Award                                    Discretionary

The award of a scholarship into Year 7 or Year 9 will be recorded on the Kingswood House honours board.

Initial Contact and Parent Visit
Prospective parents who show an interest in the School are invited to visit, either on an Open Morning or on an alternative day which suits them, when they will be given a tour of the School by a Senior boy and have an opportunity to see the School in action and meet the Headmaster and SENco if necessary. When you visit, please park at the front of the School.

You will also need to pay a Registration Fee of £100. You may download the Registration Form below and send it to us via post or email.

Taster Day and Offer of a Place
A mutually agreed day will be arranged for the child to attend the school. During the Taster Day the child will have the opportunity to experience a day at Kingswood House and meet the peer group of the class. During this visit, the SENco will meet with the child on 1:1 basis to talk and do a few informal tests to assess the level of performance. The Headmaster will contact the parents after all feedback has been gathered in order to make a fair decision, based upon a range of evidence. A decision will always be made in the best interests of the child. If a pupil satisfies our entry criteria, a place is available and a satisfactory reference from the pupil’s current school received, then an offer will be made. Written confirmation will be sent – and once accepted – full joining details will follow.
