About Heatherton School

Heatherton is a close-knit, dynamic and forward thinking school and we wholeheartedly believe that a child’s education should be inspirational, challenging and nurturing. Our pupils belong to a warm, friendly and happy community where they feel secure and able to become independent learners who are willing to explore the unknown. Highly skilled and passionate teachers inspire our pupils through a rich and varied curriculum and an array of extra-curricular activities. As a Satellite Prep School within the Berkhamsted Schools Group, Heatherton is in a unique position within the County of being able to retain its small school feel and individual level of care, but with the ability to tap into all the resourcing that a large school can offer in terms of specialist staff, cutting-edge technology and cross-campus facilities. In its most recent inspection, Inspectors noted “An exemplary attitude to learning is a major factor enabling the excellence of the pupils’ achievements.” (ISI)

We will be holding our next Open Mornings on Friday 3rd March 2017 & Saturday 4th March (10am-noon, Headteacher's welcome speech at 10.15am). Car parking available. Please do get in touch to arrange a visit.

Admissions Process

Admissions Procedure

Children can be admitted at any stage throughout the academic year, subject to the availability of places. The earliest a child can start at the school is the term in which they will be three years' old. Places are limited for 'rising three' entrants. The Heatherton Nursery is co-educational; Heatherton remains a girls’ school from Reception class to Year 6.

Early registration is advised and if you are considering entry to Heatherton, please contact our Admissions Officer Yasmin Rouse on 01494 726433 or admissions@heathertonhouse.co.uk to find out whether there are any places in the relevant year group.

Registration
Before a child can be considered for entry to Heatherton, completion of a registration form is necessary, which should be returned with the requisite registration fee to the Admissions Officer, Heatherton House School, 10 Copperkins Lane, Amersham, Bucks HP6 5QB.  The registration fee is £100, which is non-refundable.

All registrations are dealt with in order of receipt and early registration is recommended. Children with a sibling at the school will be given preference. Upon receipt of the form and requisite fee, arrangements for entry assessment can be made as required.

Entry Process
Early Years Department - Nursery and Reception (age 3-5)

All applicants are invited for an informal pre-offer visit before an offer for a place can be made. It is an opportunity for our staff to assess that we are able to meet your child’s needs. Parents will also be able to meet with the Headteacher.

We also request a copy of the child's most recent report from their current school, nursery or play group. Entry into the Nursery takes place three times per year in January, April and September, and the earliest opportunity to join is the term in which your child will be three years' old.

Pre-Prep (age 5-7) & Prep (age 7-11)

Applicants are invited for a “taster” day and will complete a variety of assessments in English and Maths to help us identify particular strengths or weaknesses. Recent reports, a reference and any test scores are also requested from the previous school.

Following the relevant assessments, the Headteacher then meets with parents to discuss their daughter’s taster session prior to an offer being made.

Special Educational Needs
If there are indications that a child has special educational needs, then the Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator will be consulted in order to assess if the school can meet the applicant’s needs prior to an offer decision being made.
