Rossall Junior School

Day Lancashire

There is a palpable buzz right across the Infant and Junior Schools – it is wonderful to see what these young minds and bodies can achieve in such a stimulating and enriching environment. Our young learners bounce into school and have wonderful days.

The benefits of being part of a whole school campus are clear with access to stunning facilities, including our 25 metre pool, full size AstroTurf and two theatres.

Our Infant and Junior School pupils follow the Primary Years Programme (PYP) which encourages children to ask questions, explore, inquire and communicate. In combination with the rich variety of sport, activity and creativity at Rossall, it is a compelling mix – our young learners are always busy and abuzz!

About Rossall Junior School

The PYP is an international curriculum framework designed for young learners aged 3 – 11 years old. Over 450 schools world wide are currently authorised to teach this programme, which is developed and regulated by the International Baccalaureate Organisation (IBO).

The PYP is an education-for-life programme designed to foster the development of the whole child, not just in the classroom but also through all means of learning. The programme focuses not only on academic development but also on social, physical, emotional and cultural needs.

Your son or daughter is taught through an inquiry based curriculum, carefully planned in accordance with the IBO’s guidelines. The PYP requires teachers to collaboratively plan units of inquiry for each age group around six important themes.

These transdisciplinary themes are: -

i. Who we are.
ii. Where we are in place and time
iii. How we express ourselves.
iv. How the world works
v. How we organise ourselves.
vi. Sharing the planet.

The role of subject based skills and knowledge is recognised as being an important part of the curriculum. Science, History, Geography, Religious Studies (RS) and Personal, Social(+ Health) Education PSHE work is carefully integrated into units of inquiry.

In addition, whenever there is an authentic and purposeful reason for including other subject areas such as English, Maths, Art or Music into the units of inquiry, this will be carefully divided between the different aspects of the curriculum. If there is no authentic connection between the subject areas and the unit of inquiry, then those subjects will be taught as “stand alone” subjects. Specialist teaching areas are available for Art and Technology, Music and ICT and the well stocked libraries are a treasure trove of inspiration for readers at all ages and stages.

Mandarin is taught from Reception class through to Year 6 as the continuous foreign language provision.

Fees

We try to ensure that the fees cover the regular curriculum, textbooks, stationery and examination fees. Periodically, off-site trips are offered which are usually charged separately.

Parents can select their payment arrangements on the Payment Methods Form at the back of this booklet. Paying by Direct Debit is the Schools preferred payment option. The fees can debited on a monthly basis from August to May or paid termly and debited on the first day of term.

Rossall School will give not less than one term’s notice of any increase in the fees*. In return, Rossall School requires a full term’s notice if parents decide to remove their child from the school for any reason, failing which a full term’s fees are payable at the full published price irrespective of any financial assistance the pupil may receive.

Scholarships & Bursaries

All pupils entering Year 3 and Year 5 can apply for a Junior Scholarship. Junior Scholarships are awarded for academic excellence, sporting prowess or musical ability.

Admissions Process

There is no formal assessment for entrance to Rossall Infant or Junior School. All pupils wishing to join Rossall School are invited for a taster day. The taster day provides an excellent opportunity for your child/children to spend time with their peers and experience a typical school day.
